Maurice Clabaugh brings a lot of unconventional shapes to our displays almost every month. That is because Maurice will turn anything – and the more gnarled and peculiar, the more it appeals to him. Maurice turns a lot of air, knot holes, and occasionally, a rock or embedded dirt. This month’s contributions were no exception. Both are winged pieces and qualify as unique. The piece on the left appears to have been turned from a crotch blank and Maurice tells me it is Blue Spruce. The one on the right is from Dogwood root and therefore no doubt had an abundance of knots, rocks, dirt, and of course, plenty of dead air.
